The Cochran Firm – Wisconsin
309 North Water St.
To attorney Willard P Techmeier, there’s nothing inherently complex to explain the success he and his law firm have had over the years.
I think we’re known for our attention to detail, he says. I think we get outcomes that other people can’t get just because we’re so diligent.
The Wisconsin accident attorney has been applying that exacting, focused approach ever since he launched his firm in 1976 and has achieved numerous sizeable verdicts and settlements as a result.
One of his first big verdicts was in 1978, when a jury awarded his client $750,000, a sizeable sum at the time, in a premises-liability case against a hotel owned by the Marcus Corp. The plaintiff was robbed and seriously injured in the hotel. The lawyer successfully argued that the defendant had a duty, not widely recognized at the time, to provide security for its patrons.
Perhaps the Wisconsin accident attorney most publicized case was a suit that he brought against Wisconsin Electric Power Co. on behalf of the family of a five-year-old boy who was badly injured when he walked into an unlocked electrical transformer. Techmeier was able to show that the utility had committed a pattern of negligence in not keeping its transformers secure. He settled the case in 1993 for $25.2 million.
In another case against a utility, the Wisconsin Gas Co., a jury awarded Techmeier’s client $2.9 million for injuries he received as the result of an explosion caused by a gas leak when he was soldering an underground pipe.
Wisconsin Accident Attorney Case Results
In 2007, Techmeier negotiated a substantial settlement on behalf of a construction-company worker who was injured in a helicopter crash. The young man was a passenger in a company-owned helicopter en route to a location in Missouri where he was to have picked up a truck to drive back to Wisconsin. In preparing the case, Techmeier was able to get the case exempted from workers’ compensation laws and restrictions by showing that the helicopter was owned by a subsidiary of the construction company.

And in 2011, he secured a substantial recovery for an employee in a chocolate factory whose dominant right arm was amputated by a vat blade that was working improperly.
Prior to forming the firm, Techmeier worked at two other Milwaukee firms after getting his J.D. from Marquette University Law School in 1970. Attorney Willard P Techmeier joined forces with the national Cochran firm in 2009.
